Humble beginnings

I've always been into crafts and done knitting (still proudly remember my first scarf with the lovely giant hole in the middle - I did that!) rug-making, sewing, making woollen pom-poms, painting stones, picture framing, willow sculptures etc.

We've now got a fantastic shop (Sweet Ginger Emporium) down the road that does courses, and I've learnt some quilting with them. I thought now was a good time to keep a record of what I'm doing, what I've done and I'll be able to see improvements and keep an eye on the new stuff I learn as well!

Considering all that, I'm not in the least bit artisitic!

Dr Who fan

I decided it was about time I learned to knit socks.....and what better starting point than my dad's birthday present (therefore must be completed, with a deadline!) and not chosing something simple.

Firstly, I have to admit I'm a little evil, and had told him that he was getting duck slipper socks.....

But really, I found the best pattern on www.ravelry.com and started pretty slowly to start with.  The second sock was much easier and since I had some spare time on my hands, I could do some dishcloths as well.  Also, it would be the 50th anniversary of Dr Who, so the theme was set!  All the patterns were on the same website.

I made up the round crochet cloth because I recently learned that at my favourite craft shop!

1st attempt at crochet

I had a go at crochet, mine is the 4-colour granny square, I was copying the other one in my local craft shop.  The owner kindly offered to show me on a quiet afternoon because I was working every Saturday when they had the classes on, and she felt sorry for me!  How kind was that!?  I had a practice at home, but as you can see, it's not square, so I turned it into a dishcloth for my dad.  I figured if it wasn't flat, he wouldn't think I'd sent him a doily!
